Rhythm Workshops

Every 2nd Saturday of the Month

Linkinhorne Parish Hall, Upton Cross, Cornwall

10am-4pm

RHYTHM IS LIFE

From the joyful sound of the earliest beats in utero to the grief at its final termination, our heart drums its rhythm inside us through our entire lives.

Some of us  access and express rhythm more easily than others. We all have it. We can all share it.

Drumming has been used collectively in every culture across the world to bring people together to mark the passage of time and the events of life.

THE DRUM CIRCLE

Exploring our relationship to rhythm, ourselves and each other; in an atmosphere of laughter, friendship and communication;  supporting and encouraging one and all, whatever our level of experience.

THE WORKSHOP

As the great Louis Armstrong declared, 'What we play is life.'

The focus is on being able to play together, in time, rather than on just learning a succession of flashy, complicated rhythms. The majority of rhythms that we use come from the 'DRUMBREAKS 7 RHYTHMS' system, designed by multi-instrumentalist Peter Scott.

Each of the 7 RHYTHMS has a number of layers leading into more complicated patterns. They have proved to be a strong foundation for both complete beginners and for anyone with a desire to play with other drummers, or other musicians.

We usually play with several rhythms in each workshop, appropriate for the participants present, and include opportunities for soloing, and skills and technique improvement, with the continual aim to create empowered drummers.

Arrival from 9:30am, The Workshop will begin (on time!) at 10am.
